My friend Taha Raja recently attended a “town hall” meeting on July 30th, 2009 about health care reform hosted by Republican Senators John Cornyn of Texas, Senator John McCain of Arizona, and Senator Mitch McConnell of Kentucky. he kindly took an audio recording of the meeting using is Blackberry, which is hosted here below. Due to the fact he was in the audience, the sound volume is a bit low, but just raise the volume a bit and you can hear the entire 45-minute session quite clearly.
Taha also has commented on the meeting at City of Brass.

This is not a podcast but rather the audio file of the infamous Dawah Doll purported to be saying “Satan is king” and “Islam is the Light”. Listen for yourself!
I tried, but failed, to discuss the Dawah Doll without snark or mockery at City of Brass.

Recently Muse and I had a conversation about that hot-button topic, mahr. Token of good faith or serious investment? With the cost of marriage on the rise and customs changing in a globalized world, this is a topic that affects many Muslims. Unfortunately we got cut off right before the end of our discussion so this is coming to you in two segments.

When discussing the Shi’a-Sunni sectarian divide in Islam, does the Catholic-Protestant analogy useful, or a barrier to understanding? Razib and Aziz continue their long-standing debate on the matter. At least, until we are interrupted by an interloper who interjects their own, unique perspective…
The original discussion on this topic was back in March 2004 – here are the relevant links:
- Aziz, at City of Brass – fuzzy analogies: Shi’a and Catholics
- Thabet, at Muslims Under Progress – On the Islamic clerisy and analogies with Christianity
- Razib, at Gene Expression – Here I Stand
There was also a followup discussion at Talk Islam this past May (2008).
Hopefully, our next podcast will pick up where this one left off!
